Paul Austerlitz and Bass Clarinet Power featuring Todd MarcusSaturday, April 2, 7pm Bass clarinetist Dr. Paul Austerlitz makes his Baltimore debut in a special quintet featuring fellow bass clarinetist Todd Marcus. The ensemble gives a spotlight to the bass clarinet in jazz and continues the lineage of greats including Eric Dolphy, Bennie Maupin, and Don Byron. Austerlitz is Professor of Africana Studies and Ethnomusicology at Gettysburg College who specializes as a composer in blending jazz with music from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other countries where he has conducted ethnomusicological research, including the land of his birth, Finland.
